Accurate quantitation of dansylated ADMA in human plasma was achieved by dual isotope calibration and linear ion trap MRM detection. (1) Lower limit of detection 0.010 pmol on column; (2) Lower limit of quantitation 10.3 nM (0.051 pmol on column); (3) ADMA stable in plasma for up to 12 h at 37 deg C; (4) There were no interfering peaks or matrix effects observed at the retention time of ADMA. The validated assay was used to show that hemodialysis reduces ADMA concentrations in patients with chronic kidney disease.
