Surgical Restoration of Orbital Volume in the Aged Enophthalmia

Aged enophthalmia.or hollow orbit is a condition often seen in patients seeking facial rejuvenation surgery .Three grades of deficit of orbital volume are distingue according to the ocular position related to both vertical, horizontal axis and sagital plane A surgical algorithm of correction was established to treat each one in order to achieve a natural appearance after rejuvenation procedures. Between February 2000 and December 2007, 27 of 338 consecutive patients who underwent rejuvenation surgery at the orbito-palpebral region were operated presenting some degree of aged enophthalmia. Surgical tactics included sub-periostal mid-face recruits soft-tissue and invagination, posterior reposition of the external cantus, superior-lateral orbital rim reduction and orbital floor augmentation using bone grafts in severe cases. Using the upper lid sulcus reposition and the attenuation of the tear through deformity as a parameter of the efficacy of our treatment, an integral surgical restoration of the orbital volume can be obtained avoiding the frequent steep-off of current face-lift procedures.
