Practical activities for the teaching of the science and technology of corrosion

The teaching of the science and technology of corrosion is at the moment being taught in Spanish Universities at graduate and undergraduate level in the science and engineering fields. The adaptation to the European Space of Superior Education has supposed a change in the educational methodology in a significant way, passing from being mainly theoretical teaching to one with a much more practical teaching focus. The objective of this work is to propose activities that help to develop the practical abilities of the student in a course of corrosion devoted to students of Engineering, i.e., Civil, Industrial, Naval, Chemistry, Aeronautic, etc. In order to emphasize visual observation in real conditions, walks with students in the streets are proposed, wherein they can identify the different types and forms of corrosion. Also, a methodological protocol is described so that the students know how to face the problems of corrosion that can arise in the industry, taking as reference the problem, the causes that have triggered it and practical possible solutions that avoid these problems. Finally, it is worth pointing out that this kind of practical teaching will diminish the social, economic and environmental impact of corrosion.
