Powering Sustainable Development Through the Integration of Teaching and Research in Engineering Education

“Sustainable Growth” has arisen as the new catchphrase for sustainability in the last decades. The aim of this paper is to identify the move towards sustainable development with the integration of research and teaching. It reveals that when we include research-based learning (RBL) activities it enhances the hands-on experience and in depth understanding of the problem. The existing engineering pedagogy couldn't compete with this methodology and this in students, can develop highly desirable intellectual capacities. Engaging students in learning assignments and tests that are intentionally structured to mimic real-world interactions helps cultivate skills important to the discipline's critical thinking and future growth. Study as part of learning is seen as central to promoting study-based approvals to the curriculum. Students attending this curriculum showed peak interest in future-oriented topics and increased socio-emotional competence which made them easier to collaborate with other stakeholders. Integrated problem-solving competence is enhanced by this curriculum which in turn makes them to find solutions for problems which stops sustainability.
