Most organizations are under ongoing and intensepressure to improve operations. Continuous improvementand business process redesign are twopaths to better organizational performance. Thereare several similarities and several differences betweenthem. Both can lead to improved performance,but employing either in the wrong situation orincorrectly can lead to wasted effort and fewbenefits.The objective of this paper is to present informationthat will enable the reader to select the mostappropriate path to organizational improvement.The supporting objectives are to1. summarize the characteristics, strengths, requirements,and risks of continuous improvementand business process redesign2. summarize the similarities and differences betweenthem3. introduce an approach to selecting the mostappropriate path.
