China`s solar PV has witnessed rapid development in recent years, and the total installed capacity has amounted to 130.25 GW by the end of 2017. However, it seems that the development of DSPV in different provinces is extremely uneven. Using OLS method and the data as of the end of 2016, this paper explores empirically the factors affecting the installed capacity of DSPV in 31 provinces and autonomous regions in China. The results show that local wholesale electricity price, electricity consumption as well as subsidies have contributed significantly to the development of its installment. Building on these results, it is recommended that the government promote the development of DSPV by providing more favorable policies, building roof resources database, and establishing a market-oriented mechanism.
