WHERE SHOULD A NEW IS RESEARCHER START?

This paper uses the principles of disciplinarity to answer questions posed by many authors on the legitimacyrnof the IS discipline. Using these answers, the paper uncovers which areas a new IS researcher should focusrnon and provides a teleological basis for advancement of the IS discipline. The paper also draws fromrnHeidegger’s and Jonas’s philosophy of technology to arrive at an operational ideology for IS – the imperativernof responsibility. This philosophy offers many benefits that will free the IS discipline to find its unifyingrnparadigm.
