Abstract: Biotechnology has recently been regarded as the technology of the 21st century. One important advancement of the biotechnology is the biochip technology which integrates the conventional biotechnology with semiconductor processing, micro-electro-mechanical, optoelectronic, and digital signal and image acquisition and processing technologies. In this paper, we give a brief introduction to the biochip technology in general, and describe the DNA micro-array technology as a specific example of this relatively new and burgeoning interdisciplinary research and development. !36
