The invention relates to a method for the fluid-tight connection of a container (1) which is formed from a thermoplastic tube extruded in one or more layers at least in some regions or which is blow-moulded from a preform injection-moulded and/or impact-extruded in one or more layers at least in some regions, the container having a closure part or a functional part (11) made of a thermoplastic material. The closure part or the functional part (11) forms a first joining partner and the plastic container (1) forms a second joining partner. A connection region between the plastic container (1) and the closure part of the functional part (11) is formed in or on the neck (3) of the plastic container (1). The container neck (3) is free from structures for firmly connecting the closure part or the functional part (11) to the container neck (3). The connection between the first and the second joining partner is created with the aid of radiated laser energy (L). A first joining partner acted on firstly by the radiated laser energy (L) is at least partially transparent to the radiated laser energy (L). The radiated laser energy (L) is at least partially absorbed at least in the connection region, in which the first and the second joining partners lie against each other under the application of force. A non-releasable integrally bonded connection between the two joining partners is created with the aid of the radiated laser energy (L) by melting and subsequently solidifying the first joining partner and/or the second joining partner in the connection region. The plastic of the first joining partner and the plastic of the second joining partner are compatible with one another at least in the connection region. A container (1) produced by the method and having a closure part or having a functional part (11) is also described.
