An edge trim comprises, as shown in Fig. 3, a transparent, U-shaped plastics body 18 encapsulating superposed strips of first and second materials having different visual appearances, the second material 16 underlying the first material, and having a greater width than the first material such that there are portions extending from opposite sides of the material 14 into areas of the edge trim co-extensive with the sides 10b. Preferably the first material is red coloured glass and the second material is aluminium foil. The U-shaped body has legs 18a and 18b bounding an internal mounting opening 18c therebetween to accommodate, e.g. the edge of an automobile door. Projections 18d are moulded on the opening 18c to provide a firm engagement of the edge trim on whatever edge the trim is placed. An adhesive coating may also be provided on this internal surface to provide permanent engagement. When in position on the edge of a car door, the edge 10a is masked from view when the door is closed and the less prominent edge portion 10b is then visible. When the door is open, the edge portion 10a is visible and provides an effective safety signal. The edge trim may be produced by feeding strips of the materials in contact with each other through an extruder head thereby being encapsulated within a transparent plastics body, and then through a shaping die.
