The rotary stepping switch has a latching and stopping mechanism and a resetting spring mounted in the space of this mechanism. The resetting spring arrangement permits a delocked switching position after a preset number of latched switching positions. In the delocked position the resetting spring arrangement provides resetting into the previous switching position. Preferably the resetting spring has a resetting stop, effecting the return into the previous switching position. The delocking in the preset switching position may be provided by an oblique element which may be formed by filling the corresponding latching gap. The resetting spring may abut a stationary stop, while the reset effecting stop may be connected to a rotary part.
