This invention aims to achieve a method of stabilizing the clear gel from Aloe Vera leaves, in order to provide a lasting preparation which is useful for relieving pain and aiding the healing of internal and external wounds. According to the invention, a catalytic proportion of non- toxic oxidant is added to a prepared amount of gel which is heated to a temperature ranging from approximately 35 degrees Centigrade to approximately 80 degrees Centigrade, for a predetermined period of time. A sufficient proportion of non-toxic antioxidant is then added in order to poison the catalytic oxidant, and sufficient proportions of a non-toxic neutralizer, relative to the antioxidant added, are added in order to maintain the pH of the preparation at a value between pH 4 and pH 6. In a further aspect of the invention, a non-toxic surfactant is added which will not produce an alkaline pH for the amount of neutralizer present, in sufficient amounts to disrupt and prevent the coagulation of the gel substance. In another aspect of the invention, effective concentrations of tocopherols are added to stabilize the colour of the stabilized preparation. In another aspect of the invention, sufficient proportions of sorbitol, a suitable deoxidant, and tocopherols are added to prevent the bacterial degradation of the substances of the gel substrate.
