A Method For The Conversion Of CelluloseTo Glucose Using Microbispora bispora Rutgers P&WAbstract of the DisclosureA method is described for the enzymatic saccharification of acellulosic substrate to glucose which utilizes fermentationof the substrate with the cellulase enzyme complex-producing,thermophilic microorganism Microbispora bispora Rutgers P&Wand its mutants. The resistance of M. bispora Rutgers P&Wcellulase to end-product inhibition enables conversionefficiency superior to that of known cellulase producingmicroorganisms. Continued enzyme activity at elevatedtemperatures allows broader applicability of enzyme-catalyzedsaccharification than heretofore attained. The microorganismin its purified form incubated on cellulose, and itscellulolytic mutants, are also disclosed.
