PURPOSE:To measure an error which is the deviation of a wire from the center axis of the rotary machine speedily with high accuracy without requiring skillfulness by composing the measuring instrument for positioning of a thin and long beam and the laser scanning type width measuring instrument. CONSTITUTION:A contact end 2 is formed at one end of the linear beam 3 made of a rigid body. Further, the wire 1 is extended previously to a position almost on the center axis of the rotary machine 5. The width measuring instrument 4 is fixed on the beam 3 where the distance from the tip end of the contact end 2 becomes equal to the radius of the internal surface of the rotary machine 5, the tip of the contact end 2 is brought into contact with the internal surface of the rotary machine 5, and the other end is placed on the top surface of the rotary machine 5. The wire 1 is arranged in the notch part 8 of the width measuring instrument 4 and the distance L between a reference position (a) which is one end of the scanning range of the detection part of the width measuring instrument 4 and the external surface of the wire 1 is measured. The beam 3 is turned over and the distance L between the external surface of the wire 1 and reference position (a) is measured similarly; when both measured values are denoted as L1 and L2, (L1-L2)/2 is the horizontal movement distance of the rotary machine 5 and indicates the distance of the deviation between the rotary axis of the rotary machine 5 and wire 1.
