PURPOSE:To achieve a better detection of a change in capacity of a target artery at the center alone of a pressurizable cuff by correcting an optical path of infrared rays with an infrared sensor section at the front stage of the pressurization of the cuff. CONSTITUTION:This apparatus is provided with a pressurizable cuff 30 to adjust condition of a blood stream by an air pressure and an infrared sensor section 10 to detect a pulse wave by absorption or scattered reflection of infrared rays by blood. Under such a condition, the pressurizable cuff 30 is mounted on a finger 50 as part to be measured being laminated with the infrared sensor section, and protruded blocks 13 and 17 are provided to correct an optical path of the infrared rays by the infrared sensor section 10 associated with the pressurization of the cut 30 at the initial stage of the pressurization. Thus, at the stage of reducing the pressure of the cuff, a change in capacity of blood flowing through the part to be measured, namely, a target artery can be detected better especially at the center of the cuff alone.
