PURPOSE: To enable freezing heat at a desired low temperature to be generated efficiently by utilizing a plurality of metal hydrides. ;CONSTITUTION: Metal hydrides of three kinds are denoted by MH1, MH2, MH3 (M: metal) in the order of the high level of equilibrium hydrogen pressure. In the case of a good heat radiation efficiency, two sets of MH2, MH3 are used and, during a period of time when hydrogen is made to move from MH3 to MH2 in one set and from MH2 to MH3 in the other set, freezing heat generated by hydrogen dissociation from MH2 in the other set is taken out. In the case where the heat radiation efficiency drops, two sets of MH1, MH2, MH3 are used and, during a period of time when hydrogen is made to move from MH3 to MH2, MH1 in one set and from MH2, MH1 to MH3 in the other set, MH1 in one set is cooled for hydrogen occlusion by utilizing heat generated by hydrogen dissociation from MH2, in the other set, and freezing heat generated by hydrogen dissociation from MH1 in the other set is taken out.
