Character input method and character entry manner

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten input time by reducing the number of times of key depression when inputting a character from a ten-keyboard. SOLUTION: Kana character strings from the 'a-line' to the 'wa-line' in Japanese syllabary are allocated to numerical keys 0-9 on the ten-keyboard 1 and the depression of each numerical key is detected by a key input detection circuit. A central control part 3 refers to a Kana character ROM 4, selects and displays a character whose vowel of the corresponding line is in the 'u- column' as a home position, and when the number of times of depressing a selection switch 5 arranged independently of the ten-keyboard 1 is detected by a counter 6, selects and displays a character whose vowel is in the 'i-column' by executing up-one operation, a character whose vowel is in the 'a-column' by executing two up-operations, a character whose vowel is in the 'e-column' by executing one down-operation, and a character whose vowel is in the 'o- column' by executing two down-operations. When a required character is displayed, the character is defined by a definition key formed on the ten-keyboard 1.
