The steering wheel assembly for a motor vehicle has two flaps (6,8) pivoted (10) to the steering column-wheel assembly (4). There are transmissions to connect the flaps to operate functions of the vehicle to operate them if one or both flaps are moved. The flaps have a compensator (5) to prioritise the action of one flap over the other. The flaps can be mounted directly behind the steering wheel.
