PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining information about a material composition of a scanning object using a computed tomography system, and an apparatus therefor.;SOLUTION: The method for obtaining data includes quantifying the fat content of tissue (74) using a multi-energy computed tomography (MECT) system (10). The multi-energy computed tomography (MECT) system is provided including at least one radiation source, at least one radiation detector, and a computer operationally coupled to the radiation source and the radiation detector. The computer is configured to receive data regarding a first energy spectrum of a scan of an object including tissue, receive data regarding a second energy spectrum of the scan of the tissue, and decompose and segment the received data to identify regional fatty tissue and lean tissue.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
