An erasing apparatus for use with a thermochromic recording medium, comprising:a heating means for heating the thermochromic recording medium to an erasing temperature to erase an image printed on the thermochromic recording medium;a pressure means for pressing the thermochromic recording medium against the heating means;a temperature sensor for sensing a temperature of the pressure means; andan erasing condition control means which determines an erasing condition for the thermochromic recording medium based on the temperature of the pressure means, and which maintains the erasing temperature within a prescribed range.
