PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection device and an inspection method for an electronic component loading film carrier tape enabling an inspecting person to inspect an outer appearance of the electronic component mounting film carrier tape under a reasonable attitude at a sat chair without being dependent on a magnification factor of an enlargement lens device when the inspection is carried out where the inspection device is compact in size and further an indoor space for the inspection work can be effectively utilized. PSOLUTION: An unwinding reel 3 and a take-up reel 7 are arranged adjacent to each other and an inspecting location 10 is arranged in such a way that the unwinding reel 3 and the take-up reel 7 arranged adjacent to each other are installed in a sequential order of the unwinding reel 3 and the take-up reel 7 from the position of the inspecting location 10. A film carrier tape T fed from the unwinding reel 3 is transferred at the inspecting location 10 in a substantial vertical direction and then the film carrier tape T extending along this substantial vertical line direction is inspected by a magnifying lens device 11.
