The method involves providing a circular folding support (1) with an open cover surface (11), and attaching a gas bag to the support. The gas bag is attached to the support through the open cover surface. The gas bag is detached from the support under pressure effect through the open cover surface. The gas bag is pressed against a counter bearing (7) during the detachment from the support, to compress the gas bag to a gas bag package. The support is provided in a cross section into which the gas bag is attached. An independent claim is also included for a device for compacting a gas bag inflatable for protection of a person for an airbag module, so that the gas bag is provided as a gas-bag-package.
