The generator has an ion source (15) for producing ions from hydrogen gas, and a target (14) producing the neutrons by interaction with the ions. The ion source is constituted by a plasma focus device that has a cathode (4) and an anode (7). The target contains tritium or deuterium or mixture of tritium and deuterium. The target is arranged in proximity of a zone, where a plasma pinch is placed. An accelerating unit accelerates the ion product towards the target, and a polarizing unit polarizes the target. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a neuron generator.
