The steering device has a steering wheel, which is pivotably connected with a continuous hollow steering shaft (7). An electric conductor is guided through the steering shaft for electric connection of a steering wheel-sided gear. The conductor, particularly a flexible conductor plate or a highly flexible cable or a flat conductor strip line is guided in axial direction through the entire steering shaft and is withdrawn at both ends of the steering shaft. An independent claim is also included for a method for electrical connection of a steering wheel-sided gear in a steering device of a motor vehicle.
