The method involves determining acoustic perceptibility of vehicles (1-3) based on acoustic factors and/or environment of the vehicles, where the perceptibility represents the perceptibility from a spatial direction of a detection position (4) in surroundings of the vehicles. A part of the perceptibility is controlled based on control criteria using acoustic signal generating units. The control criteria are designed such that the perceptibility increases at the detection position for which quotient of habitation- and/or collision possibility of the vehicle exceeds a preset value. An independent claim is also included for a system for controlling acoustic perceptibility of a vehicle.
