The system (2) has a master brake cylinder (6) connected with a brake (22) via a brake pipe (18). A normally open valve (30) is connected in the pipe. A bypass line (34) surrounds the normally open valve, and an electronic decentralized unit (60) is linked with the normally open valve and a normally closed valve (38) for controlling the normally open valve and the normally closed valve. The decentralized unit is connected with an electronic central unit (80) and a wheel speed sensor (50), and designed as a smart plug. The speed sensor is designed as a passive inductive sensor or active sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating the hydraulic brake system.
