PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element having high contrast and satisfactory display characteristics though having a satisfactory viewing angle by providing a retardation layer wherein liquid crystal molecules are hybrid-aligned, to provide an electronic device using the same and to provide a manufacturing method of the liquid crystal display element.;SOLUTION: In an electrically controlled birefringence mode liquid crystal display element 1a formed by combining a liquid crystal cell wherein a liquid crystal layer LC is interposed between a pair of transparent substrates 11 and 21 and a hybrid retardation layer 23 wherein the liquid crystal molecules are hybrid-aligned, the hybrid retardation layer 23 is formed on the liquid crystal layer LC side of one transparent substrate 21 on a counter substrate 20 side of the pair of transparent substrates 11 and 21.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
