The driver assistance system has an electronic control unit connected to sensors of predetermined speed or predetermined distance. The electronic control unit is configured such that the distance and relative speed of a preceding vehicle are recorded by the sensors during a presence of a sailing operation in a turned off condition. The sailing mode is deactivated during the presence of a sailing operation in the turned off condition.
