The system has a determination unit determining angular position (theta) of a to-be-towed vehicle (2) relative to a towing vehicle (1) and outputting a control signal containing the angular position. A parking assistance device comprises a steering actuator to actuate wheels (10) of the towing vehicle and a control unit to control the actuator and receive the control signal. The control unit delivers a predefined steering angle (alpha) to the actuator based on the control signal to maintain the towing vehicle and the to-be-towed vehicle in a rectilinear direction. An independent claim is also included for a reversing assistance method for a towing vehicle attached with a to-be-towed vehicle.
