PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire extinguishing method and laser beam machine for extinguishing s fire of brush bundles in a brush table for supporting a plate-like workpiece by detecting an occurrence of the fire thereof.SOLUTION: A fire extinguishing method for brush tables in the laser beam machine, includes fire detection means 27A, 27B, and 27C at a plurality of brush bundles 11 provided on a brush table 9 or positions close to the plurality of brush bundles 11 for detecting a fire of the brush bundles 11. The fire extinguishing method includes, when the fire detection means 27A, 27B, and 27C detect the fire of the brush bundles 11, stopping oscillation of a laser beam, jetting inert gas from a laser nozzle of the laser beam machine, and extinguishing the fire, with a side under a plate-like workpiece W supported by the brushes defined as an insert-gas rich state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
