PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To curtail a construction period and keep reinforcement to an underground start base to a small scale, by constructing an outer shell shield tunnel without interfering with other construction work processes.SOLUTION: A construction method of a large cross-section underground space, includes the following steps for: having a ramp shield tunnel 12 reach a prescribed destination position; excavating a traffic line shield tunnel 3 from the ramp shield tunnel 12 toward an underground start base 15 constructed in a circumferential direction of a main line shield tunnel 11; placing an outer shell shield machine 14 at a prescribed starting position in the underground start base 15, by transferring the outer shell shield machine 14 in the traffic line shield tunnel 3 toward the underground start base 15 from the ramp shield tunnel 12, after the traffic line shield tunnel 3 reaches the underground start base 15; and forming an outer shell shield tunnel 13 by excavating with the outer shell shield machine 14.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
