A TRANSLATION ANALYSIS OF THE WORD IF AND ITS EQUIVALENCE IN ENGLISH CONDITIONAL SENTENCE IN THE GOOD EARTH INTO BUMI YANG SUBUR BY PEARL S BUCK

摘要

The objectives of this research are to figure out and describe the varieties of English Conditional Sentence (ECS) translated into Indonesian Conditional Sentence (ICS) and the message equivalence in The Good Earth into Bumi YangudSubur. This research uses descriptive- qualitative study which uses methods of seeking, collecting, classifying, and analyzing, then drawing conclusion. The collected data are analyzed by using the document method. From 80 data, the writer finds 8 varieties of ECS which is translated intoudICS. They are the ECS type I which is translated into implicit ICS 4 data or 3, 2%, the ECS type I which is translated into explicit ICS-KS 28 data or 22, 4%, theudECS type I which is translated into explicit ICS-KA 3 data or 2, 4%, the ECS type II which is translated into implicit ICS 1 data or 0, 8%, the ECS type II which is translated into explicit ICS-KS 28 data or 22, 4%, the ECS type II which is translated into explicit ICS-KA 5 data or 4, 0%, the ECS type III which is translated into explicit ICS- KS 4 data or 3, 2%, and the ECS type III which is translated into explicit ICS-KA 6 data or 4, 8%. The last finding is that the data are determined as equivalent translations,ud73 data or 58, 4% and 7 data or 5, 6% as non-equivalent translations. It means that the translation done by the translator of The Good Earth into Bumi Yang Subur belongs a good translation.
