The National Science Foundation (NSF) is the only federal agency dedicated to advancing non-biomedical research and education in science and engineering across all fields and disciplines and at all educational levels. NSF supports research and workforce development programs that help drive future economic growth, global competitiveness, and the creation of high-wage jobs for American workers. NSF seeks high-risk, potentially transformative projects that will generate path-breaking discoveries and new technologies. NSF integrates research and education to support the development of a world-class scientific and engineering workforce. NSF funds advanced instrumentation and facilities that enable state-of-the-art research as well as Arctic and Antarctic research, science operations, and other related activities for the U.S. polar research program. NSF supports cooperative research between universities and industry as well as U.S. participation in international scientific efforts.
