The deep drawing process is a process to manufacture a product from sheet metal.211u001eDuring the deep drawing process an initially flat blank is clamped between the 211u001edie and the blank holder after which the punch moves down to deform the clamped 211u001eblank into the desired shape. The final shape of the product depends on the 211u001egeometry of the tools, the material behavior of the blank and the process 211u001eparameters. Useful tools to study the influence of these parameters are numerical 211u001emodels like the finite element method. A program based on the finite element 211u001emethods is DIEKA which has been developed at the University of Twente in close co-211u001eoperation with Hoogovens Research and Development. The goal of the research at 211u001ehand was to develop the existing finite element program DIEKA in order to better 211u001esatisfy the requirement for industrial applications of the deep drawing process. 211u001eThis goal is achieved by improving and extending the existing models and by 211u001edeveloping new models for both coated and uncoated sheet metal.
