摘要

This study involved multivariate cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses of themarket conditions, operating characteristics, costs and prices of approximately 3,500 U.S. short-term general hospitals, including 122 horizontal mergers involving over 244 hospitals, from 1986 to 1994. This study provides evidence of modest (approximately 5%) cost and price savings from horizontal hospital mergers.
