The induced air is blown in parallel to the side edges of the operating-table, and extracted again, still flowing horizontally, with spacings of 1 - 1 1/2m. Intake and outlet pipes with discharge and extractor slits are pref. suspended at intervals from the ceiling round the operating table, with a series of extractor slits directed towards one intake slit. The intake pipes may be set centrally to the table's side edges and the outlet pipes opposite its corners, with extractor slits right round, open towards the floor, all pipes being made of flexible, transparent material. The pipes maybe detachably suspended and telescopically collapsible. Personnel movement is not impeded, and a stable air curtain is provided and extracted without setting up eddying.
