Maryland Biological Stream Survey: Ecological Assessment of Non-Tidal Streams211 Sampled in 1996

The report summarizes results from the second of three years of sampling for the211u001efirst round of the statewide Maryland Biological Stream Survey (MBSS or the 211u001eSurvey) and provides an update on the program's progress in assessing the 211u001econdition of Maryland's non-tidal streams. Supported and led by the Maryland 211u001eDepartment of Natural Resources (MDNR), the MBSS is a comprehensive program to 211u001eassess the status of biological resources in Maryland's non-tidal streams; 211u001equantify the extent to which acidic deposition has affected or may be affecting 211u001ecritical biological resources in the state; examine which other water chemistry, 211u001ephysical habitat, and land use factors are important in explaining the current 211u001estatus of biological resources in streams; establish a benchmark for long-term 211u001emonitoring of trends in these resources; and target future local-scale 211u001eassessments and mitigation measures needed to restore degraded biological 211u001eresources.
