Factors That Influence Multivehicle Rear-End Crashes: Analysis of Crash211 Propagation and Injury Severity

Multi-vehicles rear-end crashes constitute a significant portion of the total211u001ecrashes in the Unted States. Information and early warning about the vehicle 211u001estream ahead can reduce the possibility of such crashes and given a crash the 211u001einjury severity of occupants. The objective of this study is to examine the 211u001eeffect of information and other factors on rear-end crash propagation and the 211u001epropensity of driver injury in such crashes. The authors also explore the 211u001eimplication of the authors' findings for developing early warning systems.
