In recent years much attention has focused on the potential health benefits of211u001edrinking moderate amounts of alcohol. Yet even moderate drinking is not without 211u001erisk. A key issue in determining the health risks and benefits of moderate 211u001edrinking is the lack of a uniform definition of the term 'moderate'. Even within 211u001ethe field of alcohol research no standard definition exists. This issue of 211u001eAlcohol Research and Health examines the many definitions of moderate drinking 211u001ethat exist today. Other article review research on the effects that moderate 211u001edrinking has on heart disease, driving ability, and the unborn child. We also 211u001eexamine how combining even moderate amounts of alcohol with medications may prove 211u001edangerous and explore why women may be more susceptible than men to alcohol's 211u001eintoxicating effects.
