The Partnership for the Sounds (PFS) is a nonprofit organization chartered in1993 to 'stimulate sustainable community-driven economic well-being within the Albermarle-Pamlico region through the promotion of responsible eco-heritage tourism, environmental stewardship, and education.' PFS has developed several nature/cultural-based attractions focusing on the unique ecological and cultural aspects of the estuarine communities of North Carolina. This study assessed the economic impact of the three PFS development projects on a five-county region of eastern North Carolina. Data were collected during the summer 2000 season.
