A method for assessing/judging the danger of damage to a motor vehicle, in which the data model comprises a surface model for at least one part of the outer surface of the vehicle and the danger of damage is given in at least dependence on an impact angle (133) and at least one projection line (3), at least one impact point (131) on the outer surface of the vehicle, and at least one tangent (132) at the impact point (131) are determined. The angle between the tangent (132) at the impact point and the projection line (3) describes the impact angle (133) at the impact point (131), and at least one impact point (131) is determined in relation to the surface model.
