Health Literacy Implications for Health Care Reform: Workshop Summary

Prior to the workshop, panelists were provided with a commissioned paper prepared by the Center for Health Care Strategies, reviewing the provisions of the ACA as they relate to health literacy.1 To set the stage for the panel discussions the authors of the paper, Health Literacy Implications of the Affordable Care Act, provided a brief overview of their findings. Following this introduction, a representative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) offered the Departments perspective on the commissioned paper and discussed why 2010 was a pivotal year for national action on health literacy.
