The complex nature and history of the pricing process in the U.S. dairy industry are discussed. Past developments and expected more rapid changes are examined in light of their effect on policy issues and modification of the process. The report analyzes the continued growth of large regional dairy cooperatives and the dominant position of supermarket groups, and identifies several issues to be resolved in the 1970's.
