The invention provides a method for milking dairy animals and manufacturing cheese (26) from the milk obtained, wherein the method comprises the following steps: a) milking a well-defined, measured amount of base milk which satisfies certain quality standards and which is not mixed with other milk; b) manufacturing cheese (26) directly from the base milk obtained, by means of a fully automatic production line. Furthermore, the invention provides a milking machine for milking dairy animals coupled to a production line for manufacturing cheese (26), wherein the cheese (26) is produced from a well-defined, measured amount of base milk which has been obtained beforehand by means of the milking machine and which meets certain quality standards and which is not mixed with other milk, which production line is fully automatic and comprises a number of separate processing locations where intermediate products from the base milk are generated and/or treated, wherein the transportation between the processing locations and the mechanical handling of the base milk, the intermediate products and the cheese (26) or in the processing locations takes place by means of a fully automatic robot vehicle (robotised automatic guided vehicle) which is provided for the purpose. Due to the fact that the entire well-defined amount of milk undergoes every process step, the end product is reliably traceable. In addition, the direct production ensures a straightforward process without expensive separate transportation and flushing lines. The fully automatic robot vehicle (22) ensures an efficient production process.
