摘要

This report presents the activities and evaluation of a project conducted by the American Nurses' Association. The purpose of the project was to improve quality of care for the institutionalized aged through continuing education for professional nurses working in nursing homes. The project was implemented in three phases. The major activity was 42 three-day continuing education conferences held nation-wide on care of the aged for nursing home nurses with a total attendance of 3080. The second phase of the project brought directors of nursing and nurse administrators from the 50 states and Puerto Rico together for a conference to identify problems which impede quality nursing home care and to evolve solutions. The final phase provided funding for individual state nurses' associations to implement additional conferences aimed at providing continuing education for nursing home nurses. Twenty states conducted a total of 31 programs in this phase.
