Evaluation of the Puerto Rico Community Survey-Operational Feasibility and Quality

Censuses provide population numbers, household or family size and composition, and information on sex and age distribution. They often include other demographic, economic and health-related topics as well. The American Community Survey program (ACS) supplements the 10 year cycle of census data collection by annually surveying a representative sample of the countrys population. The resulting data provides timely, demographic information at the community level. As part of the ACS, the Puerto Rico Community Survey was conducted from 2005-2009. For the 2005 survey approximately 1% of households in the population completed a questionnaire. Data was collected through face-to-face interviews and self-enumeration on subjects of housing, household demographics, education, migration, employment, and income.
