In October 1978 the Bureau of Motor Carrier Safety (BMCS) contracted with SAFETY SCIENCES, Division of WSA Inc. to conduct a study analyzing the injury and illness hazards associated with working in, on, or about commercial motor vehicles. The focus was to be on occupationally-related problems other than motor vehicle accidents. The primary objectives of the study were to identify significant contributing factors to personal injury accidents and illnesses for various categories of motor carrier employees, and to prioritize potential countermeasures to the risk factors noted. The report is Appendix A to Volume II. It presents injury and illness data tabulations from SDS (Supplementary Data System) tapes utilizing SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences).
