Impact of Interventions in Water Supply and Sanitation in Developing Countries

What measures will best improve water supply and sanitation in developing countries and what are the effects of various interventions on a community's health and social well-being. Proceedings of the seminar are given in the report. Speakers on the seminar's first day focused on the public health implications of water supply and sanitation improvements. The first two papers identify the relationships among various diseases and poor sanitation, water quality, and water availability. The next three, respectively: review research into the epidemiology of water-related diarrheal diseases; discuss ways to integrate water supply and sanitation interventions with primary health care; and analyze the cost-effectiveness of alternative measures for controlling enteric diseases.
