The purposes of the study were to: (1) make maximum use of the currently available injury and illness data on firefighters to identify and prioritize safety and health problems affecting firefighters; and, (2) provide as detailed data as possible using existing data on the circumstances and sequences of events that lead to the most frequent and severe firefighter injuries/illnesses in order that more effective corrective actions may be developed.
