Fiscal Year 1984 Research and Technology Program (of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Policy Development and Research)

In 1984, HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R) will evaluate the Fair Housing Assistance Program, work on a guidebook to help local governments assess the housing needs of their handicapped citizens, and continue support for several projects providing assistance for the elderly. By the end of 1984, PD&R will have completed an evaluation of the Congregate Housing Services Program. Work will also begin on a guidebook that will describe various techniques being used at the local level to provide appropriate housing for elderly persons capable of independent living. Other projects to be undertaken in 1984 include an assessment of the techniques for reducing utility consumption in public housing projects, an assessment of modernization needs of the public housing stock, and preparation of the 1984ANational Urban Policy Report. Evaluations of the Community Housing Resources Board concept and the Fair Housing Enforcement demonstration, continued analyses of alternative housing finance instruments, and continued documentation and dissemination of information about successful private - public partnerships will also be performed. Budget appropriations for the specific areas covered by PD&R are given. These include housing programs, safety and standards, housing markets, fair housing, community and urban development, local government management, and research support.
